Moving on from Trailblazer

After three years at Twingl/Trailblazer, and a lot of soul-searching, I have an announcement to make. I have decided to move on from Trailblazer to pursue new projects.

I want to say it was a hard decision: but in the past three months it became the obvious choice. Education is an area close to my heart. Since we pivoted away from Twingl (an app solving a personal problem), this market gave me 90% of my motivation. And so: with secondary education’s short-term viability disproved, it’s time for me to go.

In the spirit of Derek Sivers, I believe in life you should say either “HELL YEAH!”, or “No.” To maintain the status quo out of fear or obligation drags the rest of the group down.

Matt’s passion for the success of Trailblazer has shone through every day I have worked with him. He will make this company a success, and the best thing I can do to support him is to get out of the way.

As for what’s next for me: I’m starting a new design and marketing consultancy. This should help fill in some of my business skills. I’m also starting work with a few really exciting startups here in Chile. I have much to learn. And working alongside a series of very smart people is the most sustainable way to do this.

Trailblazer is now in the best hands it could be in. I believe in Matt and his vision for the company: and he has the will to make it a success. He is already a far better CEO than I ever was.

I’ve stepped back from day to day tasks; and my last act at Trailblazer will be to encode my knowledge into an e-book/wiki. This will make it super easy to on-board future decision-makers, and will be an asset to the open-source collaborators.

I want to take this moment to thank every one of my supporters for your advice and belief in me over the years. It means more than you can imagine, and I promise to pay it forward.

So, gracias otra vez, and farewell for now.

Trailblazer’s best days are yet to come.
